Abstract: This research documents Indigenous Women’s Journey of Returning to the Homeland in Southern Taiwan after Typhoon Morakot. Literature shows that women are more vulnerable than men in disasters. However, they also demonstrate great strength in the recovery and rebuild processes. How did
indigenous women recover from the trauma caused by natural disasters? How did they gain strength to rebuild their homeland? Are there any tensions between indigenous men and women during the reconstruction period? How did they reconstruct their homeland given the interplay of gender and ethnicity in their daily lives? This action research is participatory observation in nature. I will work closely with the indigenous women, adopting community surveys as well as healing workshops to enhance the depth of the research. Finally, this research aims to provide a model for social workers, who wish to work with indigenous women.
